Got a call from this number talking about some dodgy tax refund, total scam.

I got a call from this number just before 11 am today, but I didn’t pick up. Lately, I’ve been getting loads of scam calls, and it’s the same for a relative of mine who’s in their 80s. Because of all the scams going around, I usually just ignore any unknown numbers now.

Got a call from someone with a Liverpool accent saying I could get tax back from PPI. Told them I don't have any PPI. This is the second time they've rang me and I said the exact same thing before.

Got a call from someone asking if I was Miss Costello. I told them they must have the wrong number. Then they asked again, "Are you sure you ain't Miss Costello?" I replied, "Like Abbot?" and they just hung up. Sounded like they had an English accent, maybe from the Midlands?

Got a call from some unknown number again, totally unwanted!

Got a call from a woman saying I had a tax refund waiting.

She said I had to chat with her for about five minutes to get it. Oddly, she already knew my full name and where I live.

Having worked and paid taxes for over 20 years, I could tell straight away it was a total SCAM.

I told her I'd ring the actual tax office myself, and she told me to jog on with some rude language.

They called me up and actually used my name which was a bit unsettling. Claimed to be from National Gateway about some tax issue on a loan I supposedly took. They even had my address, making it all feel quite fishy. When I said to post me a letter, they said it was already sent, but nothing has turned up. Could hear loads of noise and laughing in the background, which didn't inspire much confidence.

I got a call from someone saying I had unpaid tax on PPI that I supposedly owed.

Got a call saying I could get a 25% tax refund, but they wanted my bank info. I said no thanks.

Got a call and when I picked up, they just hung up straight away. Tried calling back and this time someone picked up but I could hear a lot of people talking in the background like a call centre, and the person spoke English but with a strong foreign accent. When I asked who they were, they cut me off and hung up before I could even say they’d just called me. I’ve blocked the number now.

I’ve had two calls from this number. The woman told me I was owed a tax refund and that I needed to sign a PDF to move forward. When she called the second time, she asked if I’d signed it yet. I told her if there was any refund coming, they should just contact me by letter. I also asked why HMRC hadn’t reached out themselves. She said she was with some agency called Claim Today or something. After that, I ended the call.
