I just got a call from a recorded message with a US accent claiming to be from HMRC. It said they'd sent me a letter that apparently got returned and that they were now taking legal steps. The message told me to press 1 if I wanted to talk to an officer. I ended the call straight away though, 'cause it sounded really dodgy - I can't imagine HMRC ringing me on a mobile and using a pre-recorded message. What’s sneaky is that I actually spoke to HMRC not long ago, so if someone’s easily worried, they might fall for this as genuine!
