This number 447537166453 said they was from my family, saying stuff like "hi it’s me, my phone's not working, better get rid of my old number." I nearly got scammed out of thousands before the real family reached out. I was told things like "hi just woke up, been working late" and only then did I spot I was speaking to a complete stranger. What a dodgy scam!

A couple of comments below this will show you the best steps to block these scam calls and texts. If everyone who falls victim to these scams here in the UK took the same measures, there’d be serious pressure on the police and government to crack down on these fraudsters. Don’t just hope someone else will do it. It honestly doesn’t take much time. I’ve bookmarked the ‘Action Fraud’ site and even dropped my MP an email, got quite an intriguing reply too. But it’s no use if only I’m doing it.

scam alert - this number messaged me on WhatsApp calling me mum, claiming their phone was smashed and this was the replacement. they started pushing me to pay a £1500 bill. as soon as i asked for the child’s name and the bank details for payment, all the info vanished. be careful!

I got a call from this number, and the person said they were my daughter and someone named David. They said it was a new number and asked if I could pay two bills for them. The call seemed to come from Manchester.

**** SCAM WARNING 07537 166453 **** Earlier today I got a message on WhatsApp from this number pretending to be my eldest child. They started off by saying 'my phone’s broken, delete the old number and use this one'. When I asked who it was, they replied saying it was my eldest. Took me a while but I nearly got taken in. They said they couldn’t access their bank because of the new phone and asked if I'd send a photo of my credit card to pay some bills. That’s when I knew it was a scam.
Really unsettling, especially since I’m not very tech savvy.
