What a dodgy situation! On 31st December 2022, I received messages claiming to be from my daughter, stating her phone had packed up and she’d got herself a new one. She insisted I should get rid of the old number and only use the new one. The texts were rather persistent, urgently requesting that I send money to a couple of accounts to sort out her bills. Allegedly, her online banking info was stuck on her broken phone. Each time I attempted to call the new number, it was unanswered, and the tone was rather odd. Something felt off about the entire affair, so I refrained from sending any cash and decided to try her old number instead. Well, lo and behold, she picked right up! Clearly, it was a scam all along.
