These organisations then farm out the calls to India, where folks are paid next to nothing for each lead they send back here. Possibly the best way to push back is by flooding Stour Marine with unwanted calls. It only took me a few moments to track down all their contact info on the internet.

They basically offer both mobile and landline numbers and give out lists with numbers that scammers can call. So, if you happen to get a call from a number linked to a VoIP provider, chances are your number is on one of those calling lists.

Scam alert! The person on the other end had a really bad command of English, and you could hear loads of people talking in the background which made it hard to understand anything. Got a call from some company trying to sell virtual phone numbers out of the blue. When I rang them back, they sent me to a dodgy site called www.device.co.uk - notice it’s a misspelling of “device”. From there, it redirected me to yet another page pushing a subscription with a monthly charge. Honestly, this sort of cold calling should be banned and they ought to be hit with a fine for it.

This fella said he was from an energy saving company, but I told him I wasn’t interested and hung up. Then, out of nowhere, he rings me straight back and goes, “I don’t get it, what’s wrong with you lot? We’re just trying to help!” Absolutely ridiculous.

This bloke rang up saying he was from an energy firm that teamed up with a government agency to offer grants. He was keen to find out what sort of central heating system I had installed. I didn’t give him any details but asked which government office they actually worked with. He said “the energy department”! When I asked him to explain that a bit more, he started calling me names, but the who-called site says no rude words, so I’ll let you guess - it definitely wasn’t the kind of thing a legit company would say.
