Just like the initial warning, this happened again but through Spareroom. They wanted me to send £500 to a Halifax account in Peterborough, under the name Jonathan Moran.

Watch out, this is a total scam! They pretend to rent out a house and find their victims through Gumtree. The so-called landlord goes by the name Emma Douglas and claims to have a lovely property. When you try to arrange a viewing, she complains that people often don’t show and then asks for a £500 deposit upfront, saying it’s refundable. Don’t be fooled, they’re very slick and even send you a contract to review before the viewing, acting all polite and professional. Stay safe!
