Got a dodgy text pretending to be from my kid saying "hi mum, my phone’s knackered, this is my new number, text me once you’ve saved it." Total scam, don’t fall for it!

Tonight, both my relatives got a message from this number. I had a feeling it was dodgy, so I checked it out here on this website. The text said something like, "Hi Mum, my phone broke so this is my new number for now until I sort it out at the repair shop. Let me know once you’ve saved it." Totally sounded like a scam to me.

Got a message on iMessage last night saying ‘Hi Mum, my phone’s broken. I’m using my old number now, it’s 07526450059.’ Then this morning another iMessage came through saying ‘Bill’s got to be paid, £936. Can’t access the bank as it’s frozen.’ I texted back asking what exactly happened to the phone and got told it had been dropped in the toilet. A moment later, my real daughter called me, so I knew straight away it was a con. Then at 10.30 this morning, the same number rang again, with someone saying ‘Mum??’ Definitely a scam, this number should be shut down.

Got a message from this number saying they're a family member, saying my old phone was damaged and they wanted me to save this new contact. Felt a bit iffy, might be risky.
