I haven't personally received a call yet, but I work with the Council, and one of our locals brought this up recently. It's definitely a scam - the Council would never send texts asking people to pay their Council Tax. Just want to warn others to be careful!

On the 18th of March 2019, I got a message from this number saying there was a council tax refund waiting for me. The text told me to click on a link to claim it...! What a load of rubbish, just some dodgy person having a go.

Got a text saying I’m owed over £200 on my Council Tax and to ring to claim it. Pretty obvious it’s a scam, councils wouldn’t send stuff like this by text. Best to just ignore and definitely don’t call back.
