Got one of those 'Hi Mum' scams today, but I pretended to go along with it so I could try and grab their banking info. Planning to ring up the bank and get their accounts frozen before they can do any damage.

Got a text from +44 7548 475540 claiming it was my “new number” because they’d moved to O2. The message said something like, “Hey mum, just switched to O2 so here’s my new number. Drop me a message on this one please x.” Problem is, I’m a 35-year-old guy and definitely not anyone’s mum. Quite strange really.

Got a text saying: "Hey mum, just switched to O2 so here’s my new number: +447521322373. Drop me a message x" Honestly, confused as to why they think I’m their mum - I’m a woman but was born male and can’t have kids. Is it a wrong number? Or does this kid have more than one mum? And how many networks are tied to their phone? I reckon anyone who replies as "mum" might get asked to send some cash to this mystery kid.

Ah, nearly forgot to add this (it’s that trans mum again with the strange kid), but the text actually came through from another number: 07568 729528.

Absolute scam alert from +447521322373! This dodgy number messaged my mum acting like it was me. What freaked me out most was that they somehow included my real home email in the message. Luckily, we caught on quick and no money was sent off. Thank goodness for that!

This has all the signs of a scam to me. I’d really advise everyone to be careful. It’s even more worrying since loads of students have just gone off to uni, often leaving home for the first time. I don’t have kids but got a suspicious message saying something like: “Hey mum, I’ve just moved my phone over to Vodafone so here’s my new number. Please WhatsApp me at +447521322373 xx” Totally fishy if you ask me.

Got a suspicious text from this number, claiming to be a ‘Hi mum’ scam linked with another number: +44 7593 236735. The text said something like: Hi mum, just changed to Vodafone, so this is my new number now, alright? x Then it asked to WhatsApp at +447521322373, with a couple of xx at the end. This sounds like a classic scam to me. Someone called claiming to be my son but said he had a new mobile number. He told me he couldn’t get his banking app to work and asked if I could pay back a mate who supposedly lent him some money. They even gave me bank details to send the cash. I felt something was off, so I tried calling my son but got no answer. Eventually, I spoke to my granddaughter who confirmed it was a con trick! Glad I checked first.

Someone called me pretending to be a relative and started asking for some cash. Seemed fishy straight away, probably a scam. Always be careful when calls like that come through, they might not be who they say.
