They can collect the vehicle from Jennifer's place, giving it top-notch treatment with a trailer. Since I don’t have access to online banking, I prefer if the payment could be done through PayPal. I find PayPal the safest and easiest way for transactions, especially since I won’t be around to pay in cash and for security reasons. Just so you know, the transport firm will take care of all the paperwork with you at the DVLA - things like transferring the ownership, handling the title, and filling out the sales agreement together.

This guy, calling himself Mr Avocado, really kept me hanging. He tried to get me to cover the transport fees for my car I listed on Gumtree, sending what looked like bogus PayPal docs to trick me. He says he’s in a wheelchair - yeah, well, if I end up seeing him in person, he might be after a wheelchair alright - and insists he can't deal with cash or do bank transfers since he supposedly has no internet banking. What a joke!

Got a message off someone calling himself Benson Avocado (that name alone made me wary - who even uses Avocado as a surname?!). Classic tale about wanting to buy a car for his daughter's birthday and eager to sort it quickly. He dropped this number 07742182334. He asked me for the VIN, but I didn’t share it. When I showed the email to my other half, he said straight away it was a con. Nobody hands over £4000 through PayPal like that, so watch out and don’t even waste time with him.

I was trying to sell my car on Gumtree and got a message from someone called 'AvodaBens' earlier today. Like others have said, definitely report to Action Fraud and keep your VIN to yourself because the car might be cloned. I got a strange text but still added the person on WhatsApp. He started talking about his daughter and has a profile pic of Bob Marley with the caption “The problem is people are hated when they are real and loved when they are fake.” It felt like a hint, trying to sound smart by putting the word “fake” right in front of you like it’s some kind of secret. Total giveaway if you ask me.

Like others have said, make sure you report this to action fraud and don’t ever share your VIN number, your car might get cloned. I was iffy about the message at first, but I added the bloke on WhatsApp. He went on about his daughter and stuff. They said they’d send £10,400 through PayPal without even checking out the vehicle first. Had exactly the same thing happen to me this evening. The so-called PayPal confirmation saying funds have arrived? Totally fake. Then they go on asking for £570 to be sent over to some ‘courier company account’ - but the money never actually shows up in your account. Honestly, best to ignore them completely. It’s a total scam and you risk losing that £570. If you’re unsure, just log into your PayPal yourself to see there’s nothing there.
