I got a phone call from someone saying they were a debt collector or some kind of bailiff, trying to get me to pay money for a debt I never owed. They told me they were acting on behalf of a court or business, but it was just a total scam - the debt was fake. It's called the phantom debt fraud and it’s pretty sneaky.

got a phone call from this number around 1707 on wed 24/10/2018. when i picked up, a recorded message began with something like “if you owe more than £6,000 in debt,” so i just hung up. it’s so frustrating since all our phones are signed up with the telephone preference service, yet these calls keep coming through. clearly the people in charge have no real power, cos even when you report these pest calls, they just say they can't help at all.
