Got a call from someone trying to sell a free home security system. Just told them I’ve already got one installed.

Got a ring from 07516621544, some bloke calling himself Sion, claiming to be a coordinator for a Safety and Security Monitoring system. He told me and some of my neighbours had been picked to get a free monitoring system, and that someone would give me a call to explain how it works. When I asked about the cost, he reckoned it’d be around £10 to £20 a week after installation. I told him cheers but I can’t really afford that, then just ended the call. I’ve actually had a similar phone call before and somehow knew it was a scam back then - probably still the case now.

Over the past half year, I've gotten nearly ten calls from this number. They say they're NHS, but it's clearly a con. I could hear them chuckling away in the background, which makes it obvious it’s not legit. Total rubbish if you ask me.

Like others mentioned, I got a call from someone pushing security alarms, trying to set up a demo and asking when would suit me, even though I never actually asked for it. That rubbed me the wrong way, but I guess that’s their tactic. On the plus side, having worked as a firefighter and volunteering as an NHS community first responder, I can say these alarms are very helpful, particularly for older folks living on their own. Just keep in mind they do come with a price. If you’re thinking about getting one, it’s worth comparing options or checking with Age UK for some tips.

I received a rather pushy request from someone hoping to pop round to assess my property and offer their insights on security precautions against fire and theft. They even suggested installing some kind of 'device'. Quite curious, really!

Got a call from a young lady claiming to be with Dorset Fire Service, saying they were offering free emergency alarms and safety checks for older folks. But when my mate heard and called it out as a scam, the woman got all defensive and just hung up on us.

She actually knew my name, then launched into some confusing spiel about safety stuff. I tried asking which company she was calling from, and she just said it was some private firm. She was speaking so fast it was hard to make sense of her, so I asked if she could send me the info by email or post. She said no, that wasn’t possible. That’s when I started feeling a bit iffy and hit the scam report button!

Got another call today, second one this week. Caller asked for me by name. I asked who was calling but got some jumbled talk about fire safety or something. Then she asked if I was Mr or Mrs, but I cut her off real quick as I couldn’t grasp what this was about. She just hung up on me. FYI, I never give out my name on calls from unknown numbers now, safer that way, right?

I got a call from a woman about some local fire safety campaign. When I asked which company she was with, she said Safe and Sound. At 12:53 in the afternoon on the 9th of August, 2022, I received a call from an unfamiliar number which I opted not to pick up as it wasn’t in my contacts. As soon as my voicemail activated, the caller hung up. I can’t help but suspect it was some sort of scam. What do you think?

There was a lot of background noise at first, like in one of those call centres. Then it went quiet for a bit before some stranger spoke in a language I didn't get. I just ended up hanging up the phone.

Somebody rang me saying they were offering checks for home safety, something about fire service and key holders or whatever. The line was really scratchy and I couldn’t make out most of what they were saying. I told them I had someone with me who was DBS checked and that was it, I just told them no thanks and ended the call.

Got a call from a woman claiming the fire and police commissioner had started some new scheme where if there was an intruder, the alarm would ring directly to them. Then, out of nowhere, she just ended the call. I’m pretty sure that’s all nonsense and to be honest, I think the whole "being a police officer" thing is a bit of a joke.

I got a call about fire safety, something they’re doing all over Dudley, so they said. The caller used a number that’s supposedly ex-directory and even knew my first name, but it’s not the name linked to that number. They then put me through to someone they called a ‘supervisor’. I told them to take my number off their list straight away and made it clear I’m really not interested in any calls about energy savings, roof insulation, or whatever else they’re pushing.
