I got a voicemail claiming to be HMRC saying there was a letter returned and a fine coming up, and asked me to PRESS 1 for details. No way was I pressing anything! I just hung up and rang HMRC myself. They told me straight away they never make calls like that without sending a letter first, and their numbers start with 003 or 03… Also, it would always be a real person on the line, never a recorded message. Honestly, I wasn’t too bothered, I always drop the call and check for myself. But I worry older folks or anyone unsure might fall for it and follow the prompts.
