Got a text just like the rest mentioned here. I responded by asking who it was since I’m pretty wary about clicking on any links. Glad I didn’t because I’m sure it’s just another scam! Really annoyed that folks can grab my details so easily from Gumtree, now I’m seriously considering taking my ad down.

Just posted my ad on Gumtree and got a call from a number like everyone else here. I thought maybe it was someone from that local selling app, Village or something, where you buy stuff nearby. I asked if they were from there but haven't had a reply yet. I'll update if they get back to me.

It wasn’t obvious if they meant my contact info or just the thing I was selling. I asked for clarification but got no response, which made me feel uneasy. So I looked the number up online and saw loads of reports coming in from others watching it closely. Pretty unsettling stuff!

Had the very same thing happen to me. I put up an advert on Gumtree, and someone rang asking if the item was still for sale. I said yes, and then they told me it could be shared locally through some place called [#]village[###]. Didn't trust it at all, so I ended up blocking the number and deleting the contact. Totally a scam!
