I'm from Bradford and got a few messages claiming to be from Eon about changing my smart meters. Thing is, I don’t have smart meters at all, and Eon usually contacts me by email, not texts. This has happened four times now. I’m just ignoring them and will mark it as spam soon.

Got a couple of texts today saying my smart meter was going to stop working and to book an appointment. I’ve heard before that Eon wouldn’t be texting from a random mobile number like that - they usually send a proper email if there's anything up. So, I just blocked the number straight away.

I got a call from EON Next about booking an engineer to fit new smart meters. I sent them a text with the time that worked best for me, and a few hours afterwards I got an email confirming the appointment. The email also included my account number, so it seemed legit.

Really makes you wonder what their mums think of them, and I doubt they even know who their dads are.

I posted a comment before and just came back to see if theres any new ones. Bit fishy that some comments are marked green (SAFE) and acting like the number is legit. Who in their right mind would be looking up a number they already trust??? Watch out.... scammers might be dropping those comments as well.

Got a message saying my smart meters were about to stop working and that I’d get another text soon from this same number to set up a time for Eon to come out and replace them. Then, a few minutes later, I got a follow-up asking me to pick a date and time for the appointment. I just ignored both texts and rang Eon using the phone number on my bill. Turns out, they hadn’t sent anything. I’ve blocked the number and reported it now.

Received those exact same two texts from this number, just like lots of others here. Found out some folks got emails as well. DO NOT FALL FOR IT. I rang Eon and they told me they'd never use a random mobile number for booking appointments, it’d always be an 0808 freephone. Obviously, the scammers send emails too to make things look proper.

Got 2 messages about renewing some smart meter thing... says to book an appointment, second one has a link for the ‘terms & conditions’... and a chance to save 50 quid on my fuel bill. But here’s the thing... I don’t even own a smart meter! And what kinda 50 off is that supposed to be? 50 rupees? Shekels? Or just knocking 50 off my already empty wallet? Total nonsense!

Just like others have said, get wary of these messages. I got two texts supposedly from Eon Next. The first one said my meter needed changing, then the second told me to book an appointment by clicking on a number in the message. Sounds dodgy to me. Best to double-check their legit website before doing anything if you’re unsure. Stay safe!

This is legit. I got a similar message about changing the meters. I logged into my E.ON Next account and rang the number they show on the site. They assured me it wasn’t a scam. The person on the phone then put me through to a colleague to arrange the appointment directly. I'd recommend booking this way for peace of mind instead of calling back using the number in the text. Also, when you set up the appointment with E.ON, they let you create a passcode for the engineer to provide when they arrive, which gives extra reassurance that they’re really from E.ON.

Just got the same couple of texts that others here have already talked about. I messaged E.on Next through their official Facebook account but they said they couldn't spot this phone number in their system. Feels like a scam to me. I was a bit wary anyway since my smart meter's been off for a while and when the E.on engineer came round, they couldn't get it sorted. The person messaging me did give a phone number to ring if I wanted them to have another go at fixing the meter.

At first I thought it was a odd message cause I didn’t expect Eon Next to text me like that. But then about a week later I got an email from them too, saying my smart meters might quit working soon. Sounds like they’re probably swapping out the old SMETS1 ones for SMETS2 versions.

I don’t get how this number has been around scamming folks for almost four months now. Did Eon have a leak or something? I got a call from someone who said it was Eon Next but be warned, they might be trying to pull an AI scam. They asked me simple yes/no questions, probably to trick me into agreeing to things with my voice recording. I’d say avoid replying with just yes or no. If they start pushing you, that's a big clue they're after your voice for some dodgy reason. Stay safe!
