Got a suspicious text from +447506019238 that started off with "Hi mum," claiming the sender had a new phone because the old one was broken. They said their bank locked their account for 48 hours and asked me to send £2198.12 in two payments. The message went on for about eight pages! I asked two questions only my son would know the answer to, and the guy got shifty. My son said he didn’t send anything. Then the caller tried to video call me to “prove” it was him, but I declined. Totally a scam, and I reported it right away. Going to block the number now.

This afternoon I got a WhatsApp message from this number pretending to be one of my grown up kids who supposedly got a new phone. They asked for £2,600 saying their bank app needed an update before they could access their money. I didn’t fall for it though - while still chatting with them, I messaged my daughter to check and it was definitely a con. I’ve blocked the number and reported it and changed all my passwords just to be safe. Heads up everyone, these scammers can sound really genuine and tricky.
