I had something really similar happen to me, like the other commenter. I got a message saying: Hi mum, im messaging you from a mate’s phone cause ive smashed mine and theirs is about to run out of battery. Can you text my new number 07498248960 pls x. So I messaged back asking, Which one of you lot smashed their phone then?

Just received a message saying ‘hi mum, I’ve broken my phone so I’m using a mate’s, but it’s nearly dead, can you message me on my new number please’ (I don’t have any kids!!) The number was included. Might be a mistake, but i reckon it’s a scam.
