Today, the 8th of November around 3:54 pm, I got a text on my mobile from this number. The message said: "Hi Mum, I'm messaging from a mate's phone coz I've broken mine and theirs is about to die. Can you WhatsApp me at my new number 07498116818 please x". Both numbers seem to be linked to the same scam. I asked around and was told for sure it wasn’t from anyone in my family! I've blocked the number that sent the message and also reported it. Please, don’t be a fool like me - block this number straight away!

Funny thing, today I came across a story in the news about a similar call: From +447874655549 "Hey Mum, I’m messaging you from a mate’s phone coz I smashed mine. Their battery’s nearly dead, can you WhatsApp me on my new number 07498116818?" Problem is, I don’t have any children!!

My mum, God bless her, lives alone and just got one of those creepy calls. She’s not the best with these things but thankfully she got suspicious when the way they answered her messages felt off. They even tried to get her to send £500 to some account under a totally different name! She then managed to get hold of me on my supposedly broken phone, believe it or not. I’m definitely reporting this cause it shook her up a bit. Luckily, she kept her head about her. The text came from 07763065407 and then they tried to switch to WhatsApp on 07498116818.
