Picked up and all I got was silence, then after about 18 seconds, the call just got cut off from the far end. Definitely sounded like one of those automated dialers. Best to steer clear.

I just got a call from 07491528368 saying it was HMRC warning me about tax evasion and to press 1. Why is it that these nuisance numbers can never be traced? With all the tech nowadays and organisations like OFFCOM around, how do these scammers still get away with it? Providers must be handing out these numbers too easily. If we can track DNA, surely tracking these phone numbers should be a piece of cake!

Got a call from someone named Justin Holliday who said he was with HMRC and threatened to send the police to arrest me. When I asked for my national insurance number, he didn’t know it. Definitely a scam, be careful!

I doubt I’ve ever been put on hold that many times just asking basic HMRC questions, especially since I’ve worked there before and know how they operate. Watch out though, as they keep pestering you and try to frighten you with certain phrases. Best thing to do is block the number and report it using phishing[at]hmrc.gov.uk. Stay safe!
