My partner got a message saying HSBC was stopping a payment at Waitrose, and it looked really legit! When calling back, the automated voice was exactly like HSBC’s, with all the usual phone banking options. Oddly, the bloke on the line spoke with a proper English accent, which threw me off at first. But as soon as I started asking questions, he claimed it was identity theft and warned my account would be flagged. I didn’t give him any info, and as soon as I kept pressing, he just hung up. Definitely watch out for this scam!
