Utterly shocking scam at play here! They contacted me claiming to have secured a refund of £2,550 plus another £1,550 in interest from my supposed bank. When I inquired which bank they were referring to, I cheekily stated it was the 'Bank of Paris' (which, of course, is a fictitious institution), and they seemed none the wiser! They then proceeded to dish out a reference number and an ID number, stating they wouldn't ask for my bank or card information. The bizarre part? They mentioned the funds were stuck in some sort of 'wallet'!? Next thing I knew, they plugged me into another operator of Asian descent who requested the same ID and reference numbers. I intentionally fed him incorrect details, which left him floundering. He then asked for my phone number to verify the info. Post that confusion, he handed me entirely new reference and ID numbers that didn’t even match the originals! Then, astonishingly, he suggested I was a bit hopeless with technology and offered to assist me with accessing this mystery wallet. He insisted I switch my phone to loudspeaker (inexplicable!) and head to the Play Store to download an app called AnyDesk. This is the point where it becomes evident he was angling to gain remote access to my phone to pilfer sensitive financial details, identity, and passwords. These lowlifes truly must be halted. It’s crucial to report such phishing attempts to the police and the Financial Conduct Authority!

If we choose to disregard these calls entirely, we can protect our finances from their greedy hands. Should the number begin with +44, it’s likely a computer-generated spam call rather than a genuine landline. It’s also wise to report these fraudulent attempts: simply visit phishing.gov.uk or text 'DALL' to 7726. Let’s keep our information safe!

So, if you've received a call emanating from a number linked to a VoIP provider, there’s a fair chance your number is part of that dubious roster.

It's alarming to think they’ve managed to swindle folks out of hundreds of thousands of pounds in just a few days, according to the police.
