I received a phone call from someone saying they were with British Gas but they rang me from a mobile number. The chap insisted he could help me save some money. I kindly declined his offer, yet I can't shake off the feeling that it's a bit dodgy for British Gas representatives to be using their personal phones for such matters.

I received a phone call purporting to be from British Gas, with a person on the line urging me to arrange a meeting with an expert on energy efficiency. This raises a rather intriguing point: why on earth would British Gas contact someone who isn't even a customer using a mobile number? In any case, I decided it best to hang up and immediately block that number.

I've been residing in the West Country, and I had a call from this number, asserting they were from British Gas and claiming they wanted to conduct an energy survey to help me save some quid. It was glaringly apparent that it was a scam!

It’s evident that this is a dubious automated scheme, operating with some sort of pre-recorded responses. They purport to be associated with British Gas.

Not impressed, the bloke claimed he was calling to arrange my switch to British Gas, but guess what? I’m already switched with them! Total scam, what a joke!

It seems I’ve got a robot on the phone masquerading as a representative from British Gas.
