Got a call from someone saying they were with BT and wanted to put fibre in my house instead of the old copper wires. They said there’d be a £30 charge for installation and they’d come by the next day with new gear and a router. I told them I’d confirm with BT first, then they just hung up. I phoned BT myself and they said no one had contacted me and that the whole thing is done free, so it was definitely a scam.

Today (06/02/2024) I got a call from this number, someone said they were from BT. They told me that because the copper wires in my area were rubbish, BT were upgrading to fibre optic straight to the house and offering free new gear like routers and phones to be installed inside. I rang my provider right away to check if this was true, but they told me there was no such plan and it sounded like a scam. They said they'd look into it.

Got a call earlier from a guy who said he was from BT, saying they needed to replace the phone wire outside hooked up to the telegraph pole. At first, I believed him, but then he asked for my mobile number and that set alarm bells ringing. We've had a bunch of dodgy calls recently trying to con us, so I wasn’t taking any chances. It could be legit, but it seemed weird for him to want my mobile like that. Also, he rang me from a mobile, which made me even more suspicious.
