Following up on what I said on 25th Sept, it was actually a real BT engineer sorting out the problem with my landline not having a dial tone. Lucky my PC was still working! He sorted the fault in the system first, then found some leftover power drainage on the hall socket. So he replaced it with a new 2024 style plug box. Everything's working fine now and genuine, but like I said before, I had already reported the issue through the website. Random calls, even if from an EE number, probably aren’t legit or just a mix-up.
