I reckon those are the Fat Lama lot spamming - I got a message just moments after putting my item up on Gumtree. Best just to give them a wide berth, absolute nuisances.

I put up an ad on Gumtree not long ago and got a text pretty quickly. It had a description that matched my listing and even mentioned me by name. The message said something like “thought it might help to share this with folks in XXX” and named my local area. When I tried to reply asking who it was, the message wouldn't send. Seems dodgy to me, so watch out!

I got a message from this number after I put up an ad on a local selling site, saying it’d be good to get it out to more folks nearby. I replied with “Who exactly?” and then they shot me a link to some website. No way I’m clicking on that!

I put up an ad online and pretty quickly got a message asking if the thing was still for sale. The person didn’t say who they were, but mentioned it’d be a good idea to share the listing around the local area - weirdly, they knew exactly which place I’m in. When I agreed, they sent me a link to register or something. I just ignored it and deleted the message straight away. Felt a bit sketchy to me.
