I've received a rather dubious call from this number, which plays a pre-recorded message claiming that HMRC has sent some correspondence about tax that couldn't be delivered. The message threatened me with prosecution if I didn’t press 1 to have a chat with one of their 'advisors'. It's worth noting, as many consumer advocacy sites and TV programmes have pointed out, that HMRC would never reach out in such a manner. Clearly, it’s a scam. I'm left wondering why more isn’t being done to crack down on this. I’ve encountered similar calls across VOIP, landlines, and now on my mobile too. It’s utterly absurd that advancements in technology like the internet and mobile phones can leave vulnerable individuals at the mercy of such nonsense. Honestly, it’s as shocking as the disgraceful Post Office SPM debacle!
