I got a call from some robot with an American accent saying it was HMRC, claiming a letter of mine had been sent back and I had to press 1 or they’d take legal steps against me. Total con. I’m certain HMRC never ring you up like that; they always send letters or contact your employer. Anyone who comes across this, it’s a scam, don’t be fooled. Just hang up and ring HMRC yourself using their official 0300 number to verify, never press any buttons on calls from unknown or unexpected numbers.
