12 yearsI just had a rather irritating encounter with someone touting for a government-endorsed initiative regarding FREE solar panel installations that supposedly promise to slash my energy bills. And apparently, it's meant to SAVE YOU A FORTUNE!!! The chap was incredibly insistent and insisted I book an appointment for later that evening so some of his colleagues could evaluate our eligibility, supposedly to point us in the right direction and elaborate on what it would involve and any potential costs involved. I mean, really???? When I probed a bit deeper, it became clear that you won’t see any financial perks until the system's actually up and running for a considerable time. No specific figures were forthcoming until we pressed him further, and it appears you must join their scheme. Apparently, the government foots the bill, but you could end up liable for any 'shortfall.' At this juncture, my wife firmly declared we had no intention of signing up for any scheme and expressed disinterest in something that seemed so vague and uncertain. As soon as she said that, he promptly hung up. To my surprise, he called back almost immediately; I picked up, and he was still keen on coming over that evening. I reminded him of my wife's clear refusal, to which he merely mumbled goodbye before hanging up again. His number flashed across my phone as 07467373141. As many are aware, these numbers are often readily available for various purposes, making them perfect for dodgy operators to throw a slew of 'offers' and 'promises' our way. Honestly, it's high time the government and relevant agencies took a closer look at these practices. Being inundated with leaflets-many of which the Post Office delivers along with your regular mail (they're paid for that, you know, which cleverly prevents any increases in stamp prices!)-pales in comparison to being ambushed on the street or receiving unsolicited calls in your own home. It's becoming rather tiresome. Changing your number seems quite futile, as these people will find you one way or another. They often already have your details, courtesy of seemingly reputable companies-be it car rentals, insurers, breakdown services, cinemas, sports clubs, political organisations, double glazing companies, banks, and the like-who profit from selling their customers' information. They insist there's nothing shady about it, claiming it helps keep their finances afloat. Quite depressing, really! So, the next time you're filling out any form and they're asking for your phone number, think it over carefully. Do you actually need to give it to them? When they assure you it's merely for their records or your own protection, ask if it will be 'shared with other interested parties'!Post Office12 yearsI keep getting calls from this number over and over again.Submit Your Own Report (07467 373141)
