Phone number ☎️ 07466486579 👆 is reported as a persistent and sophisticated Gumtree scammer targeting sellers of phones and electronics. The scam involves fake PayPal payment notifications claiming funds are held pending proof of postage. Victims send their items, often to false addresses including a library in Swindon, and receive no payment. I got scammed on Gumtree. They bought an iPhone off me and now refuse to return it. Now they’re demanding a Steam gift card instead. Totally dodgy!

I put up a camera for sale on Gumtree and a bloke called Daniel got in touch. He said he'd cover extra for postage and wanted me to send a video on WhatsApp as proof, which I did. He asked for my PayPal email and told me to have a look in my inbox and spam folder (bit sketchy, right?). I got suspicious, so I googled his number and came across this site. Turns out 'Daniel' from 'Bromley' is dodgy and now he's blocked!

What a scam! This number popped up on an Amazon gift card. Someone got in touch with me through Gumtree after I listed my iPhone for sale. They tried to trick me with bogus PayPal transfer notifications!!

It’s really upsetting, but we got ripped off by someone pretending to sell a mobile phone! I can’t believe this kinda thing still goes on, and Royal Mail didn’t manage to stop the parcel from being sent out. Surely there must be better ways to deal with these scammers!

Got hit with the exact same scam, honestly makes you wonder about their thinking. They sent a fake PayPal email confirmation, tried sending too much money, and wanted to move our convo to WhatsApp like I was gonna fall for it. Pretty standard stuff from these clowns.

nearly got caught out by this one. I was selling a phone on Gumtree and the buyer asked me to look in my email rather than PayPal. They claimed to have sent the payment via friends and family, which never appeared in my PayPal account. They said they’d only release the money after I provided proof I’d posted the item. Then they gave me this address to send it to: Jaime Thomas, 76 Claremont Road, Wavertree, L15 3HL, Liverpool, UK. Luckily I didn't fall for it in the end.

Got a message on WhatsApp from someone claiming they’d sent money to my PayPal for something on Gumtree. They even sent what looked like a legit email, but it was fake. I caught on and reported it straight to PayPal. Told those scammers off good, calling them absolute muppets. Honestly, steer clear of these clowns, they're just after your cash!

Honestly, I don’t get how these people can keep using the same number without any consequences. It feels like the police just aren’t doing anything about it. We’re losing money left right and centre, and it’s like they’re just mocking us. We really need to band together and stop this once and for all.

Someone got in touch about selling my phone and said they’d pay through PayPal, but they also wanted evidence I’d sent it off first. Turns out it was a con - now they’ve got my phone and I've lost £200. I tried getting help from Royal Mail but they won’t do anything. There’s gotta be a way to stop these scammers cos loads of people are getting done like this.

I got tricked by someone on Gumtree who asked me to send a mobile phone and gave me a "PayPal" email for payment. I sent the parcel but never got a penny from them. The address they used (or maybe their group) was somewhere close to Bromley, London. I’ve told the police about the phone number and address, but it seems like they haven't taken any action yet. This dodgy person needs to be stopped!

So I looked into this scam a bit after my run-in with it. Luckily, I got my parcel back because I actually went to Coventry to pick it up just in time. Seems like this phone number works with someone over here in the UK who takes delivery of the packages. There was a comment mentioning a guy from Nigeria, and when I showed up at the Coventry spot, I met a Nigerian lady using the name Rebecca Thomas (which I reckon is fake). The address was 55 St Margaret Rd, Coventry CV1 2BT - that's a good place to begin looking into this.

Beware of this one! They’re pulling the classic Gumtree scam. Tried selling a smartwatch and got those fake PayPal notifications, just like loads of others have mentioned, about the money being on hold until I post the item. So you send it off, thinking you’ll get paid, but the cash never shows up. It’s frustrating that no one seems to be stepping in to stop this happening.

A caller claiming to be Eva Roberts tried to pull a fast one with me, pretending to send money via PayPal. They even emailed me saying the payment was ‘on hold’ and wouldn’t clear until I’d posted the item and shown proof. I checked my PayPal account straight away and, surprise surprise, no funds had arrived. Luckily, I was suspicious enough not to send anything. What a nasty trick - hard to believe some people go to such lengths to scam others!

Honestly, I’ve lost count of how many addresses this woman has. While we were chatting, I kept telling her I’d reported her to ActionFraud and the police would be involved, but she just kept saying she’d flee to Swindon - seems like a lot of folks have mentioned that place too! Does anyone know what ended up happening with their case? Did they manage to get their stuff back or any kind of compensation?

I'm not really sure how legit any of this was. She said she wouldn't post the parcel back unless I paid up first, so I thought I'd see if she'd actually follow through. I sent £12, and she provided a tracking number for a package supposedly sent from a post office in Hull. Thing is, I never paid the rest of the money, and the parcel ended up arriving in Catford, London. Some bloke named "Robert" signed for it.

Had a call today from a Sharon using number 07466 486579 about a watch I was selling on Gumtree for £399. She said she’d send the money via PayPal and even mentioned she’d send £410, a bit more than my asking price. Now he’s going by Julia, still on the hunt for electronics without coughing up cash. Seriously, never send anything before the money’s properly hit your account. It’s not that complicated, folks. When he asked for proof of sending the item, I just sent him a photo of a scrap of paper with my thumb up and a cheeky message telling him to jog on. After that, he threatened my family! Honestly, the bloke’s weird as hell.

I got scammed too, the package shows it was delivered but Royal Mail hasn’t been any help at all. Total waste of time.

Just picked up my parcel from the post office, which was a relief. This whole thing’s taught me a big lesson - I’m never putting pricey stuff up for sale online anymore. Seen loads of dodgy scam vids on YouTube lately, and honestly, the ways people get scammed are endless.

how did you manage to get hold of it? I asked royal mail and they told me they’re not allowed to stop mail once it’s on its way?

I had a similar experience with someone on Gumtree. The person called themselves Sophie and said they'd sent the money through Paypal right after I listed my item. What was fishy is that they never asked any details about what I was selling or tried to haggle at all. If you’re unsure about a contact, definitely google their number first. Honestly, this one’s a total con artist, so be careful!

He isn’t set up with PayPal at all. Instead, when he tries to claim the ‘refund’, he ends up sharing his bank info.

He’s based in Nigeria, and since PayPal withdrawals aren’t allowed there, he’s gotta use a bank account instead.

I'm curious, how did you manage to get in touch with the bank when it's a PayPal account involved?

Someone sent him £870, and he mistakenly forwarded me the screenshot. Seems like a few folks actually pay him. I told the bank about it and they ended up suspending the account.

Since it was a PayPal account, how exactly did you go about notifying the bank about it?

Got some dodgy emails pretending to be from PayPal. They want you to prove you sent the item before they'll pay up. Then they claim PayPal paid you too much, so you have to send THEM money before you get anything back. Total scam.

Has anyone really gone through with sending cash to the guy? I’d think by then most people would catch on that it’s a bit of a con, right?

I’m a bit confused how my parcel ended up signed for when no one else’s was. Maybe it’s because I forgot to put my return address? Seems like the delivery man figured he could nick it without anyone noticing.

I sent off a special delivery through the post office but they never asked me for my address, so I suppose that 600 pound iPad is gone for good! Why do these scammers always pick on Royal Mail anyway? It’s like they specifically target us through them.

When sending a special delivery, you need to include both your address and the address of the person who’s meant to get the package.

The silver special delivery envelope actually has spots for both the sender and receiver addresses. The staff at the post office never told me to add my address, I just figured it’s better to be safe than sorry. Sorry to hear yours went missing though. Still, I wouldn’t just brush it off with Royal Mail.

I’m a bit confused about how these parcels get sent back since you don’t actually write your address on them? Wonder how they manage to return it to whoever sent it.

You should definitely report it to action fraud and ask for a reference number. My parcel got stopped by Royal Mail and now it's on its way back to me. I also reckon Royal Mail should be told about the address so they can keep an eye out for these scams too.

I sent a parcel to the library and some bloke named Chris ended up signing for it. When I looked up the number, it popped up in an ad where this Chris fellow was selling the very phone I’d sent! Feels like someone working at Royal Mail in Swindon is nicking parcels that are supposed to be delivered. Proper dodgy scam going on there!

Ended up on a call with Royal Mail after waiting for more than an hour. Turns out once your parcel is delivered, you’re not getting it back. And even if it’s still in transit, cancellation isn’t possible because apparently the item belongs to the Crown from that point on. The only ones allowed to stop it are the police or customs, but when I contacted the police, they weren’t bothered and just told me to report it to Action Fraud instead. Such a frustrating experience!

Someone mentioned to me that after you give your parcel to the Post Office, it actually becomes Crown property and you can’t get it back. Only the Royal Mail, Police, and Customs are allowed to access it. So, if you think you’ve been tricked or scammed, your best bet is to reach out to the Police. They’ll then liaise with the Royal Mail Security team if it’s necessary, and those folks are the ones who decide if your parcel can be returned.

If your package was marked as signed for, I’d say you could claim compensation from Royal Mail. There’s this library/community centre supposedly at 70-73, but the scammer tells you to send it to number 71, which doesn’t actually exist. So really, it’s impossible for anyone to have signed for it.

Gonna ring up royal mail, but they've marked the parcel as delivered and signed for at my place already.

If Royal Mail staff are nicking parcels, that’s definitely something worth bringing up. You could file a proper complaint, I reckon you’d have a good case. Since the place is empty, no one could’ve signed for the parcels anyway. Special deliveries come with insurance too. I’d suggest putting in a complaint about carelessness - that might make them investigate and catch who’s been taking the stuff.

When I figured out it was a scam, I jokingly congratulated him on scoring a freebie. Then he sent me a voice message, and that’s when I worked out he was a bloke from Nigeria. He said he wasn’t after the item, just the cash, but I wasn’t falling for it. He went on about how he tracks the stuff and that it gets sent back to him ‘cause he uses a library address. So, I looked up the address and it’s definitely not a home. Turns out he’s sat in Nigeria, only interested in getting the money, not the parcels.

What did you say to make him admit it?

If you've accidentally posted something to the library, I’d recommend ringing Royal Mail’s customer service straight away. They might be able to halt the delivery and get your parcel sent back to you. In case it’s too late to stop it, since the library’s shut, your item should still be returned eventually. However, it’s a good idea to also report the situation to Action Fraud online before contacting Royal Mail to make sure everything’s logged properly.

They send you fake PayPal messages trying to trick you into sending the item and providing proof of postage before the money even lands in your account. Then they come up with some story about a mistake with the payment, claiming you overpaid or something, and demand you send the extra cash back before they clear your funds. The parcels usually get sent to Swindon but they couldn’t care less about the stuff - it’s all about getting you to transfer money to them.

I got an email that looked like it was from PayPal asking me to send proof of delivery. Then, a few hours later, they messaged saying PayPal had overcharged them and that there was a pending amount in my account. They claimed they sent £100 but PayPal took £300, so I supposedly owed them £200 to release the funds. The address they wanted me to send the package to was actually a library in Swindon, so clearly no one would accept it, and I’d just get the item back. This scam is just a way to trick you into sending money. The person behind it is a guy supposedly living in Nigeria.
