Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC with a digital voice warning about an unpaid debt, saying there'd be serious trouble if I didn't pay up. They asked me to press certain numbers to sort the payment out.

Answered the call and it instantly went to a recorded message saying it was from the police about fraud and that my National Insurance number would be blocked. I hung up straight away because I know neither the police nor the DWP operate like that. Luckily I trusted my instinct, but I worry that older or vulnerable people, especially those alone during the pandemic, might fall for it and lose money they really can't spare!

If you get a call from a number you don’t know, just don’t say anything and they usually hang up. After that, block the number. It’s really annoying, especially since I’m at work and waiting for calls from clients. I’m in Kent.

Got the same kind of call as everyone else, sometimes even a few times a day.

A man with an Indian accent called me, claiming to be from the citizen advice bureau. He said my autistic son would be taken to court if I didn't let him speak to him. He's phoned me four times in the past couple of days, and on two occasions, he didn’t say a word.

Picked up the phone and this Indian bloke actually called me by my old name before I got married! My daughter was yelling in the car (she's got autism), and he mentioned something about a debt sale or whatever. I asked him what a debt sale was, and he just made an annoyed noise and hung up. Honestly, these kinds of calls should be banned.

Got a recorded message that was meant to sound like a real chat but was really weird. Loads of long silences and dull questions like "how are you?" with noisy background like you’re in a call centre and voices with an Indian accent. Just a load of rubbish, wasting my time. Just got another call! They constantly ring from different mobile numbers every day or every couple of days if I don’t pick up or reject, like 07466476240 or 07946819209. When I do answer, there’s complete silence, then either a message or getting told the number isn’t reachable. Later, they switch to landlines like 01216676352, 01213147208, or even 0208 and 0207 codes, with dodgy accents or just dead silence. Surely a scam, I’d recommend reporting and blocking them, watch out!
