Got a call from someone claiming they’ve heart and hearing issues. They asked me to get stuff for their cousin through my neighbour. Told them only PayPal would do. Smelled like a scam straight away. Watch out, it’s dodgy!

Just like the others have said, Gumtree really needs to sort this out. If they don’t, it won’t be long before Watchdog gets involved. Seriously, they can’t keep ignoring it.

So relieved to find a site like this! I got a text from +44 7451 247825 asking me to reach out to their neighbour via email at [email protected][###]. Just like others here, they claimed they couldn’t pick up the stuff themselves because they were deaf or something and had recently undergone heart surgery. Said they’d send a courier instead and needed some furniture for their cousin’s new flat. Offered to pay through PayPal. Told them I only accept cash. They then started going on about how easy it is to sort out a PayPal account - bit laughable really!

This was another classic Gumtree con. They claimed their mate next door wanted it and told me to drop an email. I sent a message to [email protected][###] and got a fishy reply saying some courier would come by and pay through PayPal. Total scam!

This woman claimed her cousin was shifting to a new flat and wanted to buy all my furniture. Heaps of red flags for me, especially after I got an email that sounded totally robotic saying the niece couldn’t come in person because she was having heart surgery. I ended up giving a pickup location that actually goes straight to the police station. Seems dodgy as anything to me.

Had pretty much the same thing happen to me - someone said they were asking for a pal next door, then a ‘Victoria Logan’ got in touch from a dodgy email. It was like one of those classic scams, thank you for your quick response and all that, saying they’ll pay full price and wanting the ad taken down right away because it’s for their cousin who’s moving into a new flat. They even said they couldn’t come collect in person ‘cos of hearing problems and just getting over heart surgery. Sounds fishy as anything to me!

Someone messaged me about an item I’ve got listed on Gumtree for £400. She refused to pay by cash or bank transfer and insisted on using PayPal instead. Of course, no money ever showed up in my PayPal account. Then she mentioned a courier was coming to collect it but claimed she couldn’t pay him due to some bank issues. Today I got a message from someone named Stacy Kaye interested in some stuff I had up on Gumtree. She said she'd just had heart surgery so couldn't come see the things herself, but she was willing to pay the full amount straight away. Hey everyone, got a call today from someone wanting to pay through PayPal. I told them I preferred cash and asked if they wanted to see the item beforehand. After that, the chatting got kinda weird, no proper answers at all. Suddenly, they asked if they could use something called family and friends or whatever that is.
