Got a call around 8:30pm on the 6th of October while I was having dinner with family, so didn’t pay much attention to the number. The caller sounded quite posh and mentioned a note supposedly left on my car about some accident. I thought it was a joke, maybe one of my brothers messing about. Then, a workmate told me they got the exact same call on the 17th of October. I’m starting to think it’s some kind of scam.

Got a call a moment ago from some posh bloke thanking me for putting my info on his car window. I told him I never did and asked if he could check the registration he saw. On Thursday, this number kept ringing me a few times while I was at work, so I just let it go to voicemail. Later on, they called again and this time I picked up. The bloke claimed I’d scratched his car and left my number and plate behind. I asked what number he reckoned it was and he said he’d be contacting my insurer and was planning to squeeze me for cash. I just laughed, told him to jog on, and hung up. I decided to tell the police in case he’s trying this scam on others who might not be so savvy. They took a report and gave me a crime reference code, suggesting I also report it on Action Fraud which I did straight away. If more of us did the same, maybe we’d stop people like this from scamming the less cautious.
