Received a call earlier purporting to be from a firm that had a cheque waiting for me linked to a recent car insurance claim. However, they were completely unwilling to share any of their information, including the other driver's particulars or the name of their insurance provider. The moment they caught on that I wasn’t falling for their ruse, they abruptly ended the call. They even took offense at being labelled as scammers!

Got a call from a guy with an Indian accent, kept getting the names wrong. He was asking for a Mr something, but I’m a woman. The only bloke who’s ever lived here was my son. He rambled something about a free boiler replacement but I told him no-one like that lives here. He hung up quickly and I blocked the number straight away. Definitely a scam, no doubt about it.

Got a call on my home phone while I wasn’t in, so the answering machine kicked in. The person on the other end didn’t hang around to hear the message and just dropped the call without leaving anything. Seems like these lot just blast out calls trying to reach loads of folks, hoping someone rings back and ends up paying through the nose or that they can flog the number on to someone else running dodgy schemes. Thought it sounded dodgy, so I asked for the official government reference about the law. They just told me to look it up on the Council's website. Got a call on my mobile last Friday 24th January. Didn’t pick up, but I quickly looked up the number here and realised it's a scam. I’ve blocked it straight away. I wish everyone knew how to block numbers on their phones. Mine’s an old iPhone and luckily has that feature, but my husband’s phone can’t do it. Honestly, all phones should have that option. Got a call from this number around 11 at night, sounded like an elderly woman from somewhere called Aldershot. She said she'd had a fall and couldn’t get back up, asking if I could ring her son who’d come help her. She tried to give me a number but I missed it, so I reported it to the cops just in case.
