I received a call from a chap with an Indian accent who mentioned something about a car accident I was involved in. He insisted they had to close the file, claiming it was a government matter. Things started getting a bit tense when I suggested that I wanted to speak to my insurance company before divulging any details. I eventually decided to hang up on him.

Received a rather dubious call from someone claiming to represent the state helpline, stating that they had a file from the RTA department mentioning my involvement in an accident. They asked if that was accurate and then proceeded to request the date of said incident. I pointed out that if they had a file, they ought to be well aware of the details. The caller insisted their verification team was handling matters but would be busy for a while, promising to ring me back in a quarter of an hour. Not that I’m eagerly anticipating it. Isn’t it common knowledge that cold calling for accident claims is against the law?

Got a call on my new phone today at 12.28 from a man with an Asian accent about some supposed car crash. I kindly explained that he had the wrong info and asked him to take my number off whatever list he'd got it from. Afterwards, I blocked the number using my phone's spam filter. It was obvious a scam. I've also reported it to the Information Commissioner's Office.
