3 yearsGot a call from this number pretending to be from HMRC. The voicemail said I’d made contact with them and that legal action was going to be taken against me. It told me to press 1 to speak to an officer, so I did. When I looked, the number showing on my phone was an 07, not the usual 01 or 0800 HMRC numbers. Legitimate HMRC wouldn’t ring you unless you’d called first. When I finally spoke to the “officer”, I asked why I was in trouble. They said I had called them, even though there was a long silence before that. Then they wanted my name and postcode to check things out, but I hung up straight away. Something felt off and they were definitely trying to scam me. Don’t ever give your info to someone ringing from an 07 number. I’m lucky I understand how these fraud calls work because I’ve seen this sort of thing in action before. If a call seems suspect and the person on the line is clueless, just hang up.
