I happened to miss a call from this number based in Ireland.

I received a phone call from someone who introduced himself as Michael. Honestly, I couldn't quite place his accent; it certainly wasn't a British one. Strangely enough, he rang me on my French mobile! He inquired whether I could converse in English and then asked me to verify the number that showed up on my device. When I probed a bit and asked for his reasoning, he simply wanted to know if the number began with 0044, which is the UK’s international dialling code. Once I confirmed that it did, he promptly ended the call. Quite peculiar, wouldn't you say?
