Received a msg saying: "HSBC ALERT: A new payee MR U DARAMOLA was added to your account. If you didn’t make this change, please go to hsbc.verify-newpayee-cancellation[###]/login". I checked my actual HSBC account through the official site and there was no alert or anything unusual. Seems like a scam to me.

Got a call at 08:45 from 07401766723, a recorded voice claiming to be from HMRC threatening legal action. They told me to ring back a number beginning with 74. Pretty sure calling it would end up costing a crazy amount on your phone bill. Total scam.

Today I received a call from this number, but it went to my voicemail so they just hung up. Honestly, this could be really frightening for older folks because they pretend to be from HMRC and even threaten legal action, which is a total lie. HMRC NEVER phones you, especially from a mobile number!! They always get in touch through official letters. This scam is seriously bad and could trick loads of people. Something definitely needs to be done to stop it.

HMRC scam again - not the first time either (last time it was from a Northern Ireland number), but this time it’s a mobile. I just hung up and flagged it as HMRC phishing. It’s pretty suspicious since less than an hour earlier I was on the GOV.UK tax page and had emailed HMRC with my phone and email details. Feels like someone inside might be leaking info (most likely!).

That HMRC scam is proper dodgy. The best tip I got was from Nationwide Building Society - never pick up or reply to calls from unknown numbers, legitimate firms always send letters first. If it's supposed to be your bank or card company, call the number on the back of your card but use a totally different phone. Also, since when does HMRC say "have a blessed day"? Sounds fishy to me.

Surely the fraud squad can track down this lot and bring them to justice? There must be people out there who are vulnerable, or maybe just not savvy with money stuff, who end up getting caught out by this nonsense, even with all the warnings on telly and in the news about scams. It’s more than just annoying calls, it’s straight up criminal behaviour.

Just wanted to share what happened to my 84 year old mum in Ossett near Wakefield. About half an hour ago she got a call saying she owed taxes and that if she didnt sort it out, there would be big trouble. The number they called from was 07401766723. She was really upset but then thankfully she phoned me straight away! This isnt just a scam, its outright criminal activity! J Fenton, her daughter.

Got a voicemail from 7401766723 warning about some serious trouble if I don’t get back to them - they said something about a ‘mike wilson’ in the message? Feels a bit sketchy to me!

On Monday 3rd February 2020, around 1:20 pm, I got a call on my home phone and there was a message left. The voicemail was from someone pretending to be from HMRC, telling me to ring back 07401766723 or they'd arrest me for unpaid taxes. The guy said his name was Mike. He had a deep English accent, sounded like a middle-aged chap, maybe a bit on the heavier side. Now I'm trying to figure out how to block that number on my landline.

7401766723 Just got a call on 4th Jan 2020 from someone claiming to be HMRC or about my National Insurance number. They totally gave it away by not addressing me by name and finishing with 'have a blessed day'!

On Monday 3rd Feb 2020 at around 1:20pm, I got a call on my landline and they left a voicemail. The message said it was from HMRC, and the bloke said I should ring 07401766723 or I'd be arrested for not paying taxes. He said his name was Mike. The voice sounded like a middle-aged English guy, quite deep and heavy. Now I’m trying to find out how to block this number on my landline.

This number rang my dad, who's 93, and they were saying he’d be prosecuted if he didn’t pay some fine. Luckily, he rang me first to double-check, so I jumped online to look it up and ended up here. Turns out, like we suspected, it’s just another scam.

Got a call from what sounded like HMRC about some legal issue and they said I had to ring back right away. The call ended with “Have a blessed day,” which was a bit odd.

Has anyone thought about informing HMRC about this? I’m curious if they have any power to take action.

Got a missed call from 07401766723 at about 9 in the morning on 03/02/20. Didn’t pick up cause number showed as ‘CALLING’ which I don’t trust. Left a message on their voicemail telling them to stop. Caller said his name was Mike Wilton, but I’ve had calls kinda like this before, only the one before was a woman on the line. Seems odd to get these repeated calls.

Just got an answerphone message from 07401766723. Like some others have said, it claimed to be from HMRC and warned about taking legal steps if I didn’t call back. Honestly, who do they think we are, daft or something?

Got a call today, 31st Jan 2020, from 07401766723 saying there’s a legal issue against me? They wanted me to call back but didn’t give any details or a proper name, just something like HMSC? Feels like a total scam to me!!

A mate of my wife, an elderly lady, got really upset after getting a call from this number. She phoned me terribly shaken, and I tried to settle her nerves a bit. I advised her to get in touch with the police because they might be able to set up some kind of call blocker - like they did for another person we know. Luckily, even though she was on the phone for about an hour, she didn’t end up sharing any bank details with them.

Got a call on my landline at 9 in the morning, and the guy says they're gonna take serious legal steps against me. Then just out of nowhere, he says goodbye and wishes me a blessed day. Like, seriously? Give me a break!

If someone’s on their own and has no clue or no one around to check with, they could be so easily tricked. This needs to be shut down pronto.

Got a call from 07401766723 just after 9 this morning, 31st October. The guy sounded really polite and well-spoken. He kept saying it was an urgent HMRC matter and mentioned some arrest warrant. Never asked for my national insurance or who they wanted specifically. Sort of unsettling to be honest.

Got a call where no one actually said who they were, just said something about the tax office. Felt like one of those scammy robo calls, pushing you to ring a dodgy number that’s likely to charge a fortune. Definitely dodgy!

Early this morning, just after 9, I got a call from 07401 766723. A bloke with a posh accent said he was from HMRC. I wasn’t having any of it and hung up straight away, but honestly, it still gave me the creeps a bit.
