I had a pretty similar situation with someone saying they were “David Newman.” They called, all aggressive and scary, saying I owed HMRC money. They kept trying to pit one director against another in the business. Sadly, I ended up paying them because of the pressure, but now I’m stuck trying to get that cash back. It’s really just taking advantage of small businesses like ours.

I was tricked by this bloke called David Newman. He called me from the number 07778 667125. Looks like he’s doing the exact same scam as others have said here. Really upset about it.

Got a call today from a bloke who said his name was David Newman, ringing from a private number. He claimed he was from HMRC and said we hadn’t replied to a letter, and that we owed £800. He even said “they” were close by, mentioned a street near us, and threatened to come round with a warrant to take stuff worth the amount we supposedly owed. Of course, no one turned up. We rang the police to report it. He was really rude, threatening and aggressive. Definitely not someone to trust.

Got a call from the same bloke, said somethin about payment and he was just 15 mins away to collect it. Told him all my calls get recorded and I’d be giving everything over to the cops along with the info he gave. This time the number showed up as withheld. Good luck to anyone else dealing with this!

Received a call from a private number, the bloke claimed his name was David Newman 2164 and said he worked as a county court bailiff. He got really hostile, insisting I owed £882 to HMRC. He went on about being just 7 minutes from my home, even mentioned a nearby restaurant to sound legit. When I told him I’d ring the office to check his identity, he turned even more pushy and rude. Luckily we didn’t give him any money and stayed on the line with our local police who have now started an investigation. It’s definitely a scam, don’t get caught out!

Got a call from someone named David Newman claiming to be a high court bailiff. He said he was just 20 minutes away and wanted £247.51 for yell[###]. Told me if I didn’t pay right then, the amount would jump to £600 when he got here. The number he called from was 07955666895.

This horrible bloke looks to have got a new phone number. He still goes by the name David Newman. Said he’s a bailiff and reckons he’ll be at the business premises in 20 mins with a locksmith. Gets really aggressive if you challenge him. Reported to the cops. His current number is 07955 666895. Speaks with a strong Brummie accent. He started swearing and making even more threats once I told him the police had been contacted. Seems like he targets women-run businesses specifically.

Awful bloke named David Newman phoned me, claiming I owed £456 to HMRC. Didn’t explain what it was for and said he'd be here in half an hour if I didn’t pay up immediately. I don’t owe HMRC a penny - told him to shove off, and of course, he never turned up.

Got a call from someone saying they were David Newman, a high court officer, claiming I owed £683 and if I paid immediately it would be less, otherwise it would be £1000 if paid online later. They said they'd arrive at my place in 30 minutes. Sounded pretty legit, mentioned some council bills from March 2019 I supposedly hadn't paid. I told them I'd wait until they actually showed up to pay anything. Never heard back or saw anyone, so reported it to the cops.

Someone phoned our company, said his name was Nigel from the high court, demanding a payment for a supposed debt. He sounded really intimidating! We contacted the police, and they told us to ring 999 if he actually turned up.

Some bloke called Nigel Carter, said his collar number was 3177. Proper rude, demanding I pay up in half an hour or they’d turn up at my house. Claimed I owed some council bill but wouldn’t say what for. Mentioned three names and two addresses, all stuff you can find on Companies House anyway. When I told him I knew it was a scam, he started ranting that he was gypsy and threatened to cut me and burn my pub down. Now I’m reporting it to the police. Such nasty bullies!

He threatened saying if I didn’t pay he’d show up in like 20 minutes and the charge would jump to £1250. He said he was in a van along with another high court sheriff. Just finished dealing with this, seems like they definitely checked out company house. It caused a total mess with my staff and missus on the phone. I was heading home and genuinely thought bailiffs had turned up. Proper pushy and believable.

Got a call from someone called Dave Newman claiming bailiffs were coming within the hour to take stuff away. I told him it’s a limited company so they can’t do that. My parents don’t owe anything anyway. He gave me this number for my parents to ring and sort it out, but after checking this number out, it’s definitely a scam.

Some bloke called himself Gary Atkins, claiming to be a High Court Bailiff about an unpaid PAYE bill. He reckoned he was half an hour from my place, ready to seize stuff, and warned the fine would jump by another grand once he got there. Problem is, we don't owe anything, so this seems like a right scam. Then he said they were 'bringing locksmiths to break into the property' next.
