Today I got a phone call from someone claiming they were ringing from Barclays in Staines, even though I’ve never dealt with that branch before. They asked for my personal info and when I asked what the call was about, the person said they were reviewing my banking needs because of Covid. They insisted the call couldn’t continue unless I gave them my security details, which I refused to do and hung up. It felt odd as my bank never phones me out of the blue, especially not from a branch I don’t use.

I rang Barclays recently and they told me that the call I got on my mobile really was from one of their customer service team. Still, I can’t help feeling a bit uneasy about them asking for my full date of birth during the call. It just doesn’t seem very secure and honestly, it gave me a bit of a scam vibe. They really ought to just ask for maybe the month or the year, not the complete birthday. Feels safer that way, doesn’t it? :(

I got a call from someone claiming to be Barclays Bank in Staines. A woman asked me to confirm some security info, but I told her nicely I wasn’t going to share anything. Then another female voice said it was Barclays and if I needed help, I should ring them directly. Thing is, if it was really Barclays, they’d already have my updated address since I told them I moved from that area.

Someone rang me saying they were from my bank. When I asked why they were calling, they just said it was a courtesy call but kept trying really hard to get my personal info, even after I told them I wasn’t interested.

Somebody rang pretending they were from my bank and instantly asked for my personal info. When I got a bit suspicious and asked questions, they said it was just a friendly call to check if I was satisfied with the bank... seemed fishy to me!
