Claimed to be from MyHeritage and started asking me some questions. I decided it was best to end the call.

they managed to get my customer number out of me, which I wasn’t too keen on. I kept saying I didn’t like sorting stuff over the phone, but it still took quite a bit of convincing before they stopped. Honestly, it’s made me lose trust in my heritage!

This number just rang me, and I’ve had calls like it before. I reckon it’s got nothing to do with my background (I actually use their services), but more about someone using info related to my heritage to fool folks into thinking they’re the real deal.

Received a call from someone claiming to represent myHeritage who seemed to know my name. It struck me as rather odd, so I ended the conversation rather quickly.

I was keen to sign up for a year after purchasing a DNA kit, but the representative pushed me to commit for five years instead. They kept throwing around these so-called fantastic discounts, initially quoted at over £900 before VAT, which were then said to be slashed to around £500 before VAT. Feeling uneasy about the whole situation, I've decided to cancel my card just to be on the safe side, as it all felt a bit dodgy to me.

My phone blocked this call right away, labelling it as spam, so I didn't pick up. Shortly after, I got another call from Israel, which I also ignored since I don't know anyone there. However, they left a voicemail, and I accidentally listened to it. It was hard to stop the message because of my eye condition.

Received a call from this number while I was in Canberra, Australia. I chose not to pick up because of the rampant scams circulating lately.

When you delve into some of the emails from My Heritage, you’ll notice there's an Email Preferences section, but be warned - it's not exactly prominently displayed on their site. Once you locate the Email Preferences option (mind you, avoid the unsubscribe option for that particular email type), scroll down to the bottom of the page where you'll see a telemarketing box that’s already ticked. Make sure to untick that, or you'll be inundated with sales pitches! Now, here's a crucial point: when you purchase a DNA kit from them, you're automatically signed up for a complimentary trial of their archive records search, which could start charging you on a monthly or annual basis. This can be quite the shock, especially as you might not even have your DNA results back by that time. So, don't forget to cancel that trial! To do so, navigate to your name, select my purchases, and then check site subscriptions. By the way, if you’re also using Ancestry or 23andMe, you can conveniently upload your results to My Heritage at no extra cost, with minimal differences. And do remember to upload your data to GEDmatch as well!

Honestly, it’s rather annoying-if I decide I want to make another purchase, I’ll simply head back to their website. There’s really no need for incessant phone calls!

It seems the whole thing revolves around DNA analyses, though I've not really taken part in any of those myself. Just received the outcomes of my DNA testing, however!
