Really strange call. Someone asked if I was [my name] working at [my employer]. I said yes, then they just hung up on me. I haven’t used MyHeritage like people have mentioned before, so no clue where this call came from. Seems like a total spam or scam to me.

This one might have been from “My Heritage” though; they rang me way too soon after I’d briefly thought about signing up for a DNA test. Got an email supposedly from MyHeritage and I clicked on a link to check out some discovery. Not long after, I got two calls from UK mobile numbers along with a couple of voicemails. One voicemail was almost a minute long but all I could hear was background noise and no one talking. The other was just a short 3 second silence. Feels like that email was dodgy, maybe had a tracker in it, since this all happened right after I opened it.

This seems like MyHeritage to me. They’re a proper company and just yesterday they sent me a note about a DNA match, but most of the details were behind a premium paywall - didn’t really fancy paying for it. I bet there’s some kind of tracker in the email link to tell them I clicked on it. Wouldn’t trust it too much.

I got signed up with MyHeritage without really meaning to, and now I’m getting loads of telemarketing calls from them. It was a bit of a pain to stop it, but I found an email from them and scrolled right down to the bottom where it said email preferences. Clicking that showed all the boxes, and the telemarketing one was checked. I just unticked it and hit save. If they ring back after that, I’m definitely reporting them to the ICO.
