Got a call just before 9 this morning, the lady on the line claimed to be from HMRC but had a bit of an American twang which struck me as odd. She didn’t explain everything clearly, but her tone felt quite pushy, urging me to press a button to talk to “an officer.” That’s when I figured it might be a scam. I don’t believe HMRC reaches out like that, plus I’ve read about fraudsters pretending to be them. I ended the call straight away. It made me wonder, if I never gave HMRC my number, how did they even get it?
