Got a text saying it's from the government about a winter heating help thing. Said there’s only a few spots so you gotta hurry and click the link. The English was a bit off too, which you wouldn’t think from some official message. So I didn’t risk clicking anything. How would they even know I’m on benefits? Seems dodgy to me, or maybe they’re guessing!

These scams are clearly targeting elderly people who are more vulnerable. The UK has been flooded with these annoying texts lately. It's really important to report them. You can send a screenshot or copy and paste the message to '[email protected]'. This goes straight to the cyber crime unit who will investigate properly. Also, forwarding the text to 7726 alerts your phone company, and they should label the number as spam across the network.
