Some bloke called saying he was Tom from Clark's and wanted to speak to one of our directors, mentioned by name. He said it was about a call they'd supposedly had before. Our director told me he’s never come across Tom, let alone had a chat with him. When I told the caller the director wasn’t around, he asked when would be a good time. I said I wasn’t sure, then he just told me to leave it with him and hung up. Bit weird if you ask me.

Jamie kept ringing us up about some business phone deals, trying to set up a meeting at our office even though we never asked for it. When I told her he no longer works here and that she must have pulled his info from Companies House, it was clear she was trying to sell us something. She said it was about some business update and that she was from Betta or Better, or something similar. Got a call from someone named Brooke Turner claiming she knows me. When I asked what company she was representing, she just kept saying “tell him it’s Brooke Turner calling” like that was supposed to clear things up. I asked twice about the company name but he dodged it, just saying something about ‘telecoms’. When I pushed a bit more, he started asking when the MD would be back and where he was. I offered to help and made it clear it was a sales call, then he ended the call pretty sharpish. Honestly, not sure what the crack was.

When I told him I wasn’t going to connect his call, he started asking who I was like he was trying to be rude. I explained that my director doesn't entertain sales calls, and he shot back saying I hadn’t even asked him yet. I got a call on our business line from someone asking to speak to the managing director. Since we handle debt collection, we're pretty cautious about dodgy callers. This bloke wouldn't say what the call was about though. He said his name was Tom Clarke from Clarks, but I couldn't spot that name anywhere in our records. I got called by someone asking for the CEO. When I asked who they were and what it was regarding, he said his name was Rob Moore and insisted the CEO would remember him since he'd sent an email earlier. I told him the CEO doesn’t work out of this office (he’s actually over in Germany) and that if he wanted to get in touch, the CEO would reply to the email. Then he just hung up on me. This is the second time I’ve had a call like this, but the previous one was from a landline not a mobile, and the person on the other end was really rude.

Totally awful experience. At first, a guy called James Harrison rang me up and acted like he knew me. Then someone else from their team phoned, and today it was a woman called Sarah Jones. This number rings me a couple of times daily, someone named Olly keeps asking to talk just to the Directors. I told him straight up, no chance unless he gives his name and where he’s phoning from. His only reply was “they’ll know what it’s about,” which they absolutely don’t. When I said Director #1 isn’t interested in whatever he was pitching (we guessed it was sales), he quickly said, “Alright, I’ll try Director #2 later.” He’s behaving like he actually knows the Directors personally, which is odd.

Whenever you get a call like that, text all the details to 7726 and wait for them to get back to you - they usually ask you to confirm the info again.
