Got a call from some auto dialler with a recorded message saying I was linked to a live fraud investigation and to press 1 to talk. When I asked them to confirm they were from HMRC, the guy said he was an “HRMC officer” and refused to prove it, saying if I didn’t trust him I could just hang up. Proper dodgy if you ask me.

Be very wary of these crooks! Make sure you write the number down on your phone and just block them. My wife got a call at about noon on 18/03/2020. There was silence on the line, then an automated message about some hmrc tax avoidance legal matter. We rang hmrc ourselves on their official landline, gave them her info, and they said they’d look into it. They told us to just ignore these sorts of calls.
