Got a call yesterday around half past six in the evening, some bloke claimed he was calling from Windows about a virus on my PC. I just said I wasn’t bothered and ended the call.

Whenever my phone rings and I’m not sure who it is, I just let it go to voicemail. If it’s important, the caller usually leaves a message. If they don’t, then they’re basically wasting their money since I can look up their number later to spot if it’s some dodgy scam.

For the past three days this number kept ringing me, saying there’s been some kind of fraud issue and to press one to talk to a cop. I never pressed it, but the third call really made me worried. Honestly, if it was a real police matter, I’d expect to get a letter, or someone to visit, or at least a proper phone call, not some robot ringing me up.

I got one of those messages too, kicked off with "Dear Citizen" (a bit Orwellian, no?). The voice on the recording was so choppy, it honestly sounded like some dodgy attempt at a police announcement. When will the officials actually step up and tackle these annoying calls? I'm seriously considering cancelling our landline altogether. I've had enough of all these scams and nuisance calls.

Got two calls from this number today, both times an automated voice claiming to be HMRC. The recording was pretty dodgy and kept going on about a warrant being issued if I didn’t press 1 to speak to a caseworker. Honestly, these scams are really scary, hope they find a way to put an end to them soon.

Just had a weird call from a number that didn’t look quite right, was missing one digit compared to a usual UK mobile. The message cut off halfway about some fraud and told me to press 1 to talk to a case officer. Obviously, I ended up blocking the number straight away.

Not sure what they wanted exactly but they did mention some kind of case number. Luckily, I’ve recently been involved as a witness in a court case and knew straight away they wouldn’t be contacting me like that, whether I was a witness or not!

Like loads of others, these so-called fraud officers keep ringing but I never pick up. I just let it ring out and go to voicemail, where I’ve left a warning that if they call two or more times without leaving a message, I'll block the number. If your phone lets you set this up, I’d definitely recommend doing it and don’t ever answer calls from numbers you don’t know.

Somebody rang but the recorded message was so muffled I couldn’t tell who it was straight away. They kept talking about fraud and said to hit 1 if I wanted to chat with a case officer. If they had just used a real person and called me by my name, I might have answered. They called two times - first one woke me up, which I wasn’t happy about, and the second was around 10:30 with the number showing as 'international'. Honestly, best to just ignore these calls.

hearing a recorded voice start with "Dear Citizen ." immediately made me suspicious. obviously, it’s a poorly thought-out trick from someone who doesn’t really get British customs. We’re not “citizens” here, remember? We’re subjects of the Queen (or King)! like others have mentioned, the call ends with a prompt to "Press 1". just a heads up, don’t press it. no telling what might happen if you do, but at the very least, you let them know your number’s active and someone answered. basically, you’re on their radar now and’ll likely get more calls.
