On 16th Jan 23, I got one of those scam calls, just like people have said here. If you pick up or reply, you'll end up out of pocket. They gave me the number 07985152756, called themselves Dodger E17. Be careful!

I actually got this back in October 2022 as well.

The police have set up a system through the NFIB to make it straightforward for the public to report all kinds of scam attempts - be it texts, calls, emails or other frauds. I only found out about this after raising the issue of endless scam calls with my MP. It seems like scammers really want to keep this information quiet. If you don’t bother reporting these scams, don’t be surprised if they keep happening. You can report to 7726, your network provider, Ofcom, or any company who's being impersonated, but those reports won’t necessarily reach the police for a proper criminal probe.

Got a text from this number claiming “mum I broke my phone…” which struck me as odd since I’m only 21 and definitely don’t have kids!

Just like the others, total scammers.

Got a message saying my son's phone had been broken. It really stressed me out. Absolute rotten scammers, honestly disgusting.

This message is totally a scam, the classic "mum I’ve smashed my phone" line. Honestly, anytime you get something like that, it’s nearly always a trick. It’s been flagged up a million times on news and social media, so don’t fall for it. They usually give the number "07487252641" to reply to on WhatsApp, but seriously, don’t even think about messaging back to this or any other number they send you. Stay safe!

Just got a text saying "Hey Mum, I broke my phone!" and it had a new number attached. Seems a bit dodgy to me, probably not legit.

Got a text saying, "Mum, I've broken my phone, so I'm borrowing a mate's to write. WhatsApp me, the number is..." Felt dodgy straight away, you know? Sounded like a classic scam trying to get someone to reply.

My mum just broke my phone and told me to get back to her on WhatsApp. Can't believe she did that!
