Got a call from a woman with a thick accent, sounded Asian. She said she was from Talktalk and mentioned there was a problem with my broadband. I barely caught what she was saying, but she told me to get in touch with their tech support. Quite confusing to follow.

The number seems like a UK mobile, but the people answering the phone are actually based in India. This sort of thing quite often happens with landlines too. I run a small company up here in Scotland, and I could easily get a Paris number to make it look like I’ve got a proper office in France, especially if I’m aiming for customers there. It can be handy when done properly, but I’m not sure companies should be allowed to use numbers from regions they’re not actually connected to. Hopefully that sheds some light for others dealing with this.
