I had almost the same thing happen to me with a woman with an Asian accent who knew my name and postcode. When I asked her where she was calling me from, she just hung up. Felt like she was trying to fish out my personal info. What’s strange is, this call came just a couple of hours after I ordered some free photo prints from the FreePrints app! Some bloke with an Asian accent rang asking for me, had my postcode and all. I thought it was one of those yes/no survey calls so I asked what phone I had, if it was a Samsung or iPhone. Told him to piss off and put the phone down. Not long after, got another call from some house and home place, sounded like the same Asian guy. He wanted me to answer a few questions, so I told him to remove me from their database. He said no and asked if he’d keep ringing me. I told him yeah, then had a laugh and said I’d just hacked his bank account. The guy swore and hung up.

It's clear that someone is attempting to gather personal information either to rob you blind or to fill out various forms using your credentials. When they called, I made sure to respond to all their inquiries with a firm "no, that's incorrect," and supplied them with entirely fabricated details. This way, they won't be able to complete any forms or perform checks successfully. I'm curious, though-how is it that a defunct number can still ring through? Surely British Telecom has the means to prevent this sort of nonsense, don't you think?

I received a call from this Asian gentleman today, and it’s not the first time - he’s been ringing me sporadically for the past six months at least. I've also had the occasional call from an Asian lady who seems to know my first name and surname, wanting my postcode. When I inquired about where he was phoning from today, he mentioned something about Curio Services.
