Received a letter that seemed to be from Churchill Insurance. It appeared fairly legitimate and well-presented, but I noticed something odd about the phone number. All the details regarding my van were accurate, even claiming that they owed me some cash. Definitely a scam; I seriously doubt anyone is out there keen to hand over money!

This was definitely some kind of insurance con. Someone said they were from Churchill, then I got a letter with a cheque for over £800 for a car that was written off ages ago. The letter included this number as Churchill's contact, plus a suspicious email address. I called Churchill directly using the number from their official website, and they told me they never sent any cheque and aren’t giving me any extra cash for the old car. Best not to try and cash those cheques, it’s dodgy.

I got a letter out of the blue from Direct Line saying they owed me £1420 because of a crash 4 years back that completely wrote off our Audi A6 Quattro Avant. At first, I thought it might be some kind of fraud. Then about 10 days later, a cheque from Direct Line turned up in the post. I’m proper pleased about it! I never rang the number that was on the letters, just waited and saw what happened. Fingers crossed for anyone else who’s waiting on something like this!

Well, after all that, I received a letter and a message from my insurance company. I decided to reach out to Direct Line through their Facebook chat, which can be found at https://www.facebook.com/DirectLineUK. The reference number in the letter was the same as the one from my 2018 claim, and they were already aware of both the vehicle registration and the date of the incident.
